Volunteers are the lifeblood of many nonprofits, and attracting and retaining committed and motivated volunteers, especially in times of economic stress and longer work hours, is an important element of accomplishing your organization’s goals. In this course, you will learn about the basic motives that spur people to identify with a cause and express willingness to work for that cause. You will learn how to harness these motives and enunciate them to current and potential volunteers. This model will draw on research into employee and member retention and turnover and will help you classify your organization so that you will know what to stress with your volunteers. You will also learn about the core behaviors and working conditions that attract or drive away employees, paid or volunteer. This course can help you align your organizational culture, policies, and procedures so that people want to become part of your organization and don’t want to leave.
